Microlight possibilities

The club has two Tecnam Sierra P2002 aircraft which can be used for Microlight Flight training or hirage to club members.

If you are interested in learning to fly one of our microlight aircraft we suggest you contact the club for an Introductory Flight.

Once you have completed an Introductory Flight and think this is the option for you, you will need to undergo a basic medical examination and be over the age of 16 to start instruction.

Your Instructor will be able to explain to you in further detail what you will need to do to be able to get a full Microlight Certificate…

How do I start my training?

Arrange an Introductory Flight with the Wairarapa Aero Club. A qualified instructor will take you through the basics and give you an overview of what is required to fly a Microlight.

Our instructor will then join you up with the Aero Club and the Recreational Aircraft Association of New Zealand (RAANZ.)

You’ll work through stages as you learn to fly. The first milestone is going solo. Consolidate your "Solo" status by flying within 10 nautical miles of the Aerodrome and also taking more advanced lessons with an instructor.

By gradually increasing your experience, passing the required exams and clocking up a minimum of 50 hours flying, you will gain your full advanced Microlight Certificate which will enable you and a passenger to fly anywhere in NZ.

Along the way, you will get assistance to study for six exams - including, Meteorology, Navigation, Aircraft Technical Knowledge, Air Law, Flight Radio and Human Factors.

Average time to Solo 6-12 Hrs

Full licence (Passenger Rating) 50 Hrs

Study papers for examinations are available online from RAANZ.

If you are interested in the Microlight Program we suggest you contact the club for more information.
