Young Eagles program
Young Eagles Information
Have you ever wondered what it is like to fly?
Wairarapa Aero Club is looking for a group of young and keen individuals, who all share something in common, an interest in aviation!
The ages we are looking for are 14-16 years old.
If you’re on the verge of this age group, still fill out and send an application through.
What Activities will we be doing, and how often?
We will work on one/two trips a month, during the weekends with the possibility of weekday during school holidays.
Thankfully in the Wairarapa, aviation activities are not too hard to come by. We have a wealth of aviation facilities, operators, and keen aircraft owners to keep us busy.
Some activities will be weather dependent and may be postponed.
Examples of activities:
• Going for a local flight in the club’s aircraft.
• Assisting with Aeroclub activities.
• Visiting vintage and historic aircraft based at Hood Aerodrome.
• Having a look around aircraft workshops and maintenance facilities.
• Possibility of visiting Control Towers at Palmerston North and Wellington and getting up close with Commercial Aircraft.
How long will the activities run for?
From a couple of hours to an entire day, it all depends on the activity.
What is the cost of the program?
$70 will get you all the stationary, badges, certificates, and Young Eagle Shirts.
Some activities may require an extra cost, generally those that involve flying, and that will be at a cost share basis.
Example: A 30-minute flight in a 4 seater aircraft ( $400 Hour )
Price of flight will be split evenly between pilot and 3 passengers.
$50 each for the 30 Minute Flight.
Hands on flying time will only be available if the pilot is a Certified Flight Instructor.
